What’s a Wellness Coach Anyway???

Periodically, I’ll get this question, so I thought I’d answer it once and for all!

What does a wellness coach do?

Well, I recently heard something from a colleague that I loved!  She received a letter from a client who said  “you’re like four people in one:  nutritionist, life coach, spiritual advisor and field commander.”

Wellness Coaches provide the HOW; we emphasize the importance of reaching balance in your life, and we know that everything feeds you, whether or not it’s on your plate.  With your permission, we’ll also examine your non-plate foods, such as career or relationships.  We educate, and we get to the root of your problem–not just mask it. For example, you might read Michael Pollan’s book, Food Rules, but have no idea how to implement those changes in your life.  That’s where we come in!


Here’s what we don’t do:


We won’t send you away with a list of so-called good and bad foods.. Everyone reacts differently to a food, so what could be a good food for you for could be poison to ME.

We don’t leave our program open-ended with no end in sight. Starting with day #1, we’ll write down and discuss your goals and challenges.  Midway through your program, I review them to see if you’re on track–or if we need to reset in order to reach them within your timeframe.


Irene Ross, CHHC, AADP is a certified, NYC-based nutrition/wellness coach.  She is a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition where she studied over 100 dietary theories, lifestyle management techniques and cutting-edge coaching methods–with instructors such as Deepak Chopra, Dr. David Katz, Dr. Mark Hyman, Geneen Roth and others. She received her board certification from the American Association of Drugless Practitioners.

She also received her BA in Communications and attended New York University.

Prior to becoming a wellness coach, she held executive positions in public relations, is a former magazine editor and even did a brief stint as a licensed NY-State Real Estate Sales Agent.
